Bala Kailasam, fondly known as BK was a highly respected television professional and an activist documentary filmmaker. He was a man of vision who could foresee the impacts of mass media well ahead of the times. His vision of using media for social wellbeing, environmental upkeep & improvement of human conditions made him create a band of highly acclaimed media professionals as his father K. Balachander’s did in the film-industry. These media professionals are placed in high posts today across the industry.Cinema Rendezvous is a registered Non Profit Trust, working on Art & Culture related platforms promoting social dialogues between Artists. Bala Kailasam Memorial Award has been instituted by Cinema Rendezvous Trust to celebrate and honour media personnels for their Innovative Use of Media towards Social Causes. The award carries a citation and a cash portion of Rs.50,000/-
BKMA is awarded to a work of an individual or an organisation that makes use of one of the following media to create a social change.1. Print Media 2. Television3. Documentary4. World Wide Web
Nominations were invited from all over the country through press, other media & referrals. A Nomination panel, consisting of eminent personalities from across the nation and representing each of the above-mentioned categories, was constituted to select THREE leading nominee for each category.
A special jury team was installed to select the finalists in each category and one award winner to get the cash prize. The jury members, renowned individuals in their respective fields sat together to discuss and finalize the recipient of Bala Kailasam Memorial Award from the nominees.The members of the jury are1.
