What’s the most challenging part in a directorial venture? Conceptualizing a good theme, bringing best actors and technicians onboard and what else? Naturally, such aspects are the most intriguing portfolios of a proficient filmmaker. But the most mandatory one among these is to keep the producers in safe zone by not letting the project turn out to be an extravagant affair. Filmmaker Kannan is obviously the one among such rarest moviemakers, who has consistently proved of such exemplifications. Possessing such strong traits, it has apparently helped him out with his production venture for ‘Boomerang’ starring Atharvaa , Megha Akash and Induja in lead roles.
“Soon after completing the script of Boomerang, the picture was pretty clear that it would take 90 days to wrap up the shoot. But we got ourselves involved in excess pre-planning. We had four versions of script and decided to shoot 2 scenes every day. If not for the cooperation of Atharvaa, Megha Akash and Induja, completing the shooting in 45 days would have been impossible,” says director Kannan.
Sending forth his bunch of acclaims upon Atharvaa, Kannan adds, “The film is set completely in favour of him. The project demanded 3 different looks out of him and he was so much active during the phase of prosthetic makeup process. We had the finest prosthetic makeup artists – Preetisheel Singh and Mark Troy D’Souza, who spent 12 hours to get the right look for Atharvaa.”
Touted to be an action entertainer, the film is extensively shot across Chennai, Aruppukottai, Virudhunagar and a song sequence in various parts of Andaman Islands.
It seems that Kannan initially opted for a Tamil title as he is usually fond of it. Nevertheless, he felt that the title ‘Boomerang’ will do more justice to the script. The filmmaker winds up saying that Bollywood actor Upen Patel has done a fantastic job and his face-off scenes with Atharvaa would be one of the strongest flashpoints in Boomerang.
With the post-production works extending for a phase of 60 days, ‘Boomerang’ is scheduled for release in August.
The film has an ensemble star-cast involving RJ Balaji, Satish, Suhasini Mani Ratnam and many more prominent actors. With the film being presented by Masala Pix, R Kannan has helmed the project apart from bankrolling it.
