‘Chennai District Masters Athletic Association’ held their 36th athletic meet recently in Pughalur. The speciality of this athletic meet is the the minimum age to take part in this is 35 and maximum is 90. 185 athletes from Chennai and 1600 from all the districts of Tamil Nadu participated in this grand meet.
Overall 52 Women Athletes got 37 gold, 24 Silver and 15 bronze medals.
In the men’s category, 133 athletes got 24 gold, 33 silver and 20 bronze medals. Chennai district received the ‘Women Championship’, ‘ Overall Championship’ and ‘ Madam Jayalalitha Trophy’. The first and second place winners will now represent Tamilnadu state team at the nationals to be held in Bangalore in the last week of February.
Mr. W.I.Devaram and I.P.S president TNMAA were the guest of honour for the chennai meet. Mr. Shenbaga Moorthy the president of ‘Chennai District Masters Athletic Association’ said “Events like this will enhance the healthy life style of senior citizens. The excitement and energy of the participants prove that this concept is here to stay in our country too”.
