War for the Planet of the Apes – Releasing in English and Tamil on July 14th

Science fictions that are conceived and crafted on a huge canvas never fail to generate fortunes as most of them receive acclaim both critically and commercially! A case in point is the tale of the ‘Apes’! ‘The Planet of the Apes’ series of films has already grown into a big franchise in the history of sci-fi thrillers and the 4th installment of that original series was ‘Conquest of the Planet of the Apes’ that hit the screens in 1972! Way back in 2011 came, ‘The Rise of the Planet of the Apes’, directed by Rupert Wyatt which was said to be a reboot of the ‘Planet of the Apes’ series. It was followed by a sequel, ‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’ in 2014. Needless to state, both the films kept the box-office bells ringing for long! ‘War for the Planet of the Apes’ is the third installment of the new ‘Apes’ franchise!

Mankind has always had the tendency to exploit the animal kingdom by making use of them for scientific experiments! On one such occasion, a scientist utilizes the services of a baby chimpanzee which acquires powers of the humans such as the abilities to think, speak and more of such humanistic traits!
Caesar, (Andy Serkis) a noble and intelligent chimpanzee, who leads a tribe of genetically enhanced apes as their King. Caeser his apes are forced into a deadly conflict with an army of humans led by a ruthless Colonel (Woody Harrelson), an iron-fisted soldier obsessed with wiping out Caesar and his tribe to defend his people from destruction. After the apes suffer unimaginable losses, Caesar wrestles with his darker instincts and begins his own mythic quest to avenge his kind. As the journey finally brings them face to face, Caesar and the Colonel are pitted against each other in an epic battle that will determine the fate of both of their species and the future of the planet.

Mark Bomback, the writer of the earlier two films has collaborated with Matt Reeves (who helmed ‘The Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’!) for a second time in succession!

It is significant to note that the characters were created by Rick Jaffa and Amantha Silver based on the premise suggested by Pierre Boulle.

As this story continues, we know that war is not avoided by the end of ‘The Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’ This third installment of the new ‘Apes’ franchise takes the viewers into a world full of unexpected surprises punctuated by a lot of twists and turns! It is in fact nothing short of an epic story that sketches the rise of Caesar from humble beginnings to being a revolutionary! While the second movie was about the need to rise to the challenge of being a great leader in the most difficult of times, this is the story that presents and projects Caesar’s his status as a seminal figure in ape history, and sort of leads to an almost biblical status. He is going to become like a mythic ape figure, like Moses!

Michael Giaccino has scored the music while Michael Seresin and William Hoy have assumed responsibilities for the cinematography and editing of this latest film that has been dubbed in regional languages as Tamil and Telugu too.
